Although Singapore is not famous for her beautiful beaches and relaxed beach holidays, you can definitely leave the city behind for a day (or two) and pretend you’re on a tropical island (okay, you do have to imagine that the huge container ships at the coast don’t exist, but the white sandy beach and palm trees are there!).
You could choose to roll out your towel on the beach and bring a picnic to the public beaches of Sentosa and East Coast, or you could opt for the ultimate beach club vibe and reserve a daybed at one of the beach clubs. You can find me at one of those beach clubs:
Tip: Click the layers on and off in this map with the (square) button on the left in the grey beam.
NB: I noticed when writing this blog, I’m very focused on the food in beach clubs 😉
Take a look at the photo inspiration page “Beach” for my most beautiful photos of beaches all over the world.
1. Rumours Beach Club
This brand new beach club (opened early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic) has the real Bali beach club vibe. Because of this, tout hip and happening Singapore gathers here during the weekend.
You have a couple of options: a pool or beach daybed, bean bags or a cabana. And imagine this: Chill lounge music, a reasonable size swimming pool (and a wading pool in front of the cabanas), delicious Indonesian dishes prepared in the open kitchen and direct access to the beach and sea (not during COVID). Oh and well, the palm trees complete the picture of course.
Tip: Walk-ins are possible, but rather make a reservation for a daybed far in advance, because the club is often fully booked.

2. Tanjong Beach Club
Tanjong Beach Club (or: TBC) is probably the most famous beach club in Singapore: known for the never-ending parties they throw. TBC is my favorite beach cub for breakfast or lunch; the brunch menu is so good!! Hipster food like smashed avo toast and açaí bowls, but also very tasty smoked salmon on brioche with a poached egg or a mushroom bruschetta with feta and truffle balsamico (I’m craving for these dishes while I’m writing this!). And you should definitely taste the homemade drinks!
For people who are scared of salt water – there is also a swimming pool here, a couple of options for beds and a beach with palm trees.
NB. Lots of families with (young) children go to TBC on weekend mornings, so if you want to be with grown-ups only, you have to arrive later.

3. FOC
FOC is actually in the middle of Rumours and TBC. FOC has a fresh look (although the weird masks above the bar are a little odd). This beach club looks smaller than the two clubs mentioned before, but that does not matter for the quality of the food. The tapas here are só good!! I love to spend an afternoon here with a late lunch, appetizers or dinner.
I recommend: Hokkaido Scallops Ceviche, Kingfish Tartare, padron peppers, roasted cauliflower, octopus (!) and the croquetas. And they serve the patatas bravas very creatively, with lots of sauce. Or order the delicious Spanish paella!

4. Daycation at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
I don’t know if this “beach club” will continue offering a daycation after COVID, but when restaurants – with the necessary measurements – could open their doors in “Phase 2” a lot of hotels invented the “staycation”. The borders are still closed, so everybody wants to explore Singapore and spend some nights in a hotel to get away from home.
Hotel Shangri-La op Sentosa has a big swimming pool, including water slides and playground for children and direct access to a private beach at the end of Sentosa. The canoes and water bikes are free to use for guests (you won’t get far though, because it’s an enclosed bay) and they have a badminton court on the beach, including rackets and a shuttle.
For SGD 75 pp (excl. tax) you’ll get a bed and beach towel from 10 until 6 pm. SGD 50 pp of the amount paid you can spend on food and drinks there. You could also truly pamper yourself here with massages and facials in the spa.
Fun fact: The hotel itself was completely closed for outsiders, because the hotel rooms are used as quarantine rooms. Everybody who wants to enter Singapore has to serve 14 days in quarantine in a designated hotel by the government (and pay SGD 2,000 for that). You don’t have a free choice of hotel where to serve the quarantine, but if I should have served quarantine, I would have chosen this one. Although, you have a full view of the pool where you can see people enjoying the pool and you are locked down yourself.
Location:
Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
101 Siloso Road, 098970 Singapore

NB: At most beach clubs you have to spend a minimum amount if you want to use a daybed. Before you say yes to a bed, check the amount you have to spend and the time-slot you can enjoy the bed to not get unpleasantly surprised with the bill at the end of the day.
