My 9 favourite rooftop bars in Singapore

Singapore is just a little red dot on the map of the world, but this tiny country has a lot to offer. Especially if you’re looking for places to eat or drink. Since alcohol in Singapore is (very) expensive, why not enjoy your drink at a superb location? Many bars and restaurants in Singapore are located on rooftops, treating you with great views while sipping your cocktail.

Here are my 9 favourite rooftop bars in Singapore:

1. Spago
2. Level 33
3. Loof
4. The Other Roof
5. Potato Head
6. Sim Yi Tai
7. Kinki Bar
8. Smoke & Mirrors
9. 1-Altitude

1. Spago Bar & Lounge

The Marina Bay Sands, that building with the boat on top of 3 huge pillars, is the most iconic building of modern Singapore. You’ve definitely seen the photos taken from the infinity rooftop pool. It’s no surprise that there are also a couple of bars located at the rooftop of MBS. This is a must when you’re visiting Singapore.

My favorite at MBS is Spago, with a view at the infinity pool, the city and at the other side at the Gardens by the Bay and the sea. Take the elevator in the middle tower of the Marina Bay Sands (Tower 2) up to Spago and enjoy the spectacular view. Only hotel guests are allowed to swim, but it doesn’t make it less fun to have a drink here.

Tip: Go to Spago during happy hour, because the deals are quite good.

2. Level33

Level33 is the highest micro brewery in the world. From the 33rd floor (wherever could it be with this name) you’ll be spoiled with a fantastic view at the bay, Marina Bay Sands and the rest of Singapore’s skyline. And the good thing is that a seasonal beer is only 10 SGD! If you’d like to try all the beers brewed by Level33, order the “beer tasting” (recommended!). The food is also very tasty.

Tip: Ask for the table outside in the corner for the best view (and photos) when you make a reservation.

3. Loof

Loof is a great place for drinks. The rooftop is not very high, but you can still see Marina Bay Sands in between the buildings. It’s a spacious roof terrace with a chill, almost beer garden, vibe. Perfect location to order the famous Singapore Sling.

4. The Other Roof

This cocktail bar is located at the roof of one of the shophouses at the always vibrant Ann Siang Road. You’re surrounded by modern buildings. The Other Roof has a never ending cocktail menu and they make every drink a piece of art.

5. Potato Head

Potato Head is situated at the corner of the lively Keong Saik Road. The bartender shakes your cocktails behind the bar at the rooftop. But you could also just order a beer and have dinner at the roof. I’ve heard that the burgers (especially the vegetarian “Impossible burger”) are very good. I still have to try that one myself.

Tip: If you can’t get a seat at the rooftop, the colorful bars of Potato Heads other levels are also very nice for a drink and a bite.

6. Sim Yi Tai

This rooftop in the “CBD”(Central Business District) is especially known by locals. You take a small and very dark elevator to the charming rooftop in Chinese style. Enjoy your drink at the breezy rooftop and order the Chinese bar food, like “salted egg fish skin”, “XO carrot cake”, “char siu” or “white bait with pork floss”.

7. Kinki Bar

Kinki Bar offers great views at the Marina Bay and Marina Bay Sands (if the lighthouse is not blocking your view). The rooftop is decorated with graffiti in neon colours and they play mainly R&B and reggaeton. Perfect for some after dinner drinks, or of course for a great start of your weekend.

8. Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors is a fancy cocktail bar on top of the Singapore’s National Gallery. Besides the delicious cocktails you’ll have a phenomenal view at the skyline of Singapore. Combine your afternoon in the National Gallery with a drink at this superb rooftop terrace!

9. 1-Altitude

Of course, I have to mention 1-Altitude, the highest rooftop bar of Singapore, on this rooftop list. What a cool place! At night this bar will transform into an alfresco disco with 360 degree views. It’s always a party over here! I danced under the stars with my mom here. You could also have dinner at 1-Altitude earlier in the evening, but that’s still on my list.

Update April 2022: 1-Altitude has permanently closed het doors, but I’m sure there will be another party who will continue on this great location. Check the website for more information.
